Judge Brosky was born on August 4, 1920, in Scott Township, Pennsylvania. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and went on to serve in the military for four years during World War II as an artillery officer in the South Pacific. Afterwards, he attended the University of Pittsburgh Law School and began his legal career working as the assistant solicitor of Allegheny County.
Judge Brosky was appointed to the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County. He was named the Administrative Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in 1970. He also served on the Juvenile Court Judges Commission and the Joint State Government Commission. During his tenure as a trial judge, he chose to return to the military. He rose to the rank of major general in the Air Force and the Pennsylvania National Guard. Judge Brosky’s extensive military service earned him the Philippine Liberation Medal, the Bronze Star, the Pennsylvania Distinguished Service Medal, and the Air Force Legion of Merit Award. Additionally, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives cited Judge Brosky for developing outstanding programs in Americanism.
Judge Brosky was later elected to the Superior Court and served from January 7, 1980, until 1989, when he chose not to run for retention. He continued to serve as a senior judge for the Superior Court.
Judge Brosky received numerous awards for his accomplishments in both careers: he won the Man of the Year – Field of Law Award from the Pittsburgh Junior Chamber of Commerce, the St. Thomas More Award from the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, and an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree from La Roche College. He also served as the president of the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges, national president of the Air Force Association, and president of the Pennsylvania National Guard Association. Judge Brosky passed away in 2010, at the age of 89, having left a nearly 50-year legacy in both judicial and military realms.
