President Judge Harold LeRoy Ervin was born in Catawissa, Delaware County, on April 5, 1895. He graduated from Catawissa High School in 1913, then attended Temple University for his bachelor’s degree. President Judge Ervin served as a Lieutenant the U.S. infantry during World War I. Upon returning home, he attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School and graduated in 1920.

He started his career in private practice, serving as solicitor of numerous townships in Delaware County. In January 1929, he served as a presidential elector for Herbert Hoover. President Judge Ervin was appointed to the Court of Common Pleas of Delaware County in 1941 and became President Judge of the Delaware Court in 1948.

President Judge Ervin was elected to the Superior Court in the fall of 1953. He became President Judge twelve years later.  He retired from the court on January 1, 1968.

President Judge Ervin was a respected member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, and the Union League of Philadelphia. He passed away on November 26, 1990.
