Biography
Judge Del Sole holds a degree in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University; an LL.B. from Duquesne University School of Law and an L.L. M. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
He was an adjunct professor at Duquesne University School of Law, and a member of the Allegheny and Pennsylvania Bar Association. Judge Del Sole also served as first chairman of the newly created Judicial Conduct Board in 1993. On the Supreme Court, he served as chair of the Ad Hoc Committee and vice chair of the Committee on Judicial Education.
Like many other true Pittsburgh residents, Judge Del Sole drove a Harley Heritage Softail and was an active trap and skeet shooter.
Judge Del Sole was appointed to the Allegheny Court of Common Pleas in 1978 and elected to a full 10-year term in 1979. In 1983 he was elected to the Superior Court of Pennsylvania and retained in 1993. He became President Judge in 2001 and later retired in 2007. He is most proud of the work done to eliminate the case backlog and to automate the judicial process on a statewide basis.
