Biography
Judge John Brosky attended the University of Pittsburgh Law School. Before his election to the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, he served as a Judge on the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, including ten years as the administrative judge for the family law division.
While a trial judge, he was elected as the President of the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges, and also served on the Juvenile Cour Judges Commission from 1973 to 1979. He was a long-time active member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
Judge Brosky also distinguished himself in the military service. An ROTC graduate from the University of Pittsburgh, he entered active service during World War II as a second lieutenant. He served as a battery commander in the Pacific Theater, taking part in historic actions on Bora Bora and Guadalcanal. Later on the island of Luzon in the Philippines he was appointed commander of the 800th Military Police Battalion. After World War II, Judge Brosky transferred to an army reserve unit in Pittsburgh. In 1966 he joined the Pennsylvania Air National Guard with the rank of Major. Over the years he continued to serve in the National Guard as a Judge Advocate and Assistant Adjutant General for Air. He was promoted to Brigadier General in 1979 and retired as a Major General.
Judge Brosky passed away in 2010.
