Portrait of Judge Daniel D. McCaffery

Justice Daniel D. McCaffery was elected in 2023 to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. He had served on the Pennsylvania Superior Court since 2020 following his election in 2019. He served as a trial judge in the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, from 2014 through 2019.

Prior to his judicial service, he worked as a trial lawyer for Friedman, Schuman P.C. form 1997 to 2014, and as an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia from 1991 through 1997.

Justice McCaffery is a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the First Cavalry Division from 1983 to 1986. After being honorably discharged, he further served his country in the United States Army Reserve from 1986 to 1989. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point Prop School.

He is the brother of former Superior Court Judge and Supreme Court Justice Seamus McCaffery, making them the first siblings to serve on Pennsylvania highest appellate courts.
